W przypadku zespołu Źrenice i albumu „Śnienie” świetnie sprawdza się idiom o tym żeby „nie oceniać książki po okładce”. Ta sugeruje potencjalnemu słuchaczowi… w zasadzie nie wiadomo co. Może jakiś baśniowy neo-prog z okolic „Baśni” Collage? Jedno jest pewne – z pewnością nie sugeruje w sposób oczywisty tego co czeka słuchacza w czasie słuchania albumu.
„Śnienie” okazuje się być sporym zaskoczeniem ponieważ na swoim debiutanckim wydawnictwie Źrenice serwują odbiorcy bardzo zgrabny miks post metalu z post rockiem, rockiem alternatywnym, stonerem a nawet folkiem. Po przejrzeniu tracklisty i przesłuchaniu albumu zaczynamy również rozumieć koncepcję okładki. Faktycznie mamy tu do czynienia z lekko baśniowym klimatem a sam zespół zaprasza nas w podróż do lasu za sprawą otwierającej całość „Bramy lasu….”. Podróż kończy się tam gdzie jest „…lasu skraj”.
Podróż ta jest wyjątkowo krótka bo trwa tylko pół godziny. I w zasadzie jedynie to można uznać za minus „Śnienia”. Poza tym widzę tu same plusy poczynając od bardzo fajnej, przejrzystej produkcji, która mimo ciężaru pozostawia dużo przestrzeni pod wokal. Produkcja ta jest bardzo zrównoważona, żaden instrument znacząco tu nie dominuje zatem np. w „Neurozie” mimo przesterowanych gitar bez problemu usłyszymy bardzo fajną solówkę.
Druga sprawa to kompozycje. Złożone ale spójne mimo sporej mieszanki międzygatunkowej. Przekonały mnie do siebie już przy pierwszym przesłuchaniu i to nie tylko ze względu na to, że są przemyślane i wyjątkowo dojrzałe jak na debiut, ale też dlatego, że w wielu momentach twórczość Źrenic przypomina mi Messę, która wydała jeden z najlepszych albumów zeszłego roku.
Trzecia sprawa to wspomniany wcześniej wokal Kamili Kuś. Czysty i wprowadzający do typowo gitarowej całości element folkowy.
Nie ma co ukrywać – „Śnienia” bardzo fajnie się słucha. Tylko dlaczego tak krótko? Chciałoby się chociaż 10 minut więcej… Chociaż może to właśnie obecna konwencja stanowi o sile tego albumu?

In the case of Źrenice and their album “Śnienie”, the idiom “don’t judge a book by its cover” works perfectly. The artwork suggests… well, it’s hard to say what exactly. Perhaps some kind of fairy-tale-like neo-prog in the vein of Collage’s “Baśnie”? One thing is certain—it definitely doesn’t clearly hint at what awaits the listener during the album.
“Śnienie” turns out to be quite a surprise, because on their debut release, Źrenice deliver a very well-crafted mix of post-metal, post-rock, alternative rock, stoner, and even folk. After looking at the tracklist and listening to the album, we also begin to understand the concept behind the cover. There is indeed a slightly fairy-tale-like atmosphere here, and the band invites us on a journey into the forest with the opening track “Brama lasu…” (“The Forest Gate…”). The journey ends where “…lasu skraj” (“the forest’s edge”) lies.
This journey is exceptionally short, lasting only half an hour—and that is essentially the only downside of “Śnienie.” Aside from that, I see nothing but positives, starting with the very good, clear production, which—despite its heaviness—leaves plenty of space for the vocals. The production is very balanced; no instrument dominates significantly, so for example in “Neuroza”, despite the distorted guitars, we can easily hear a very nice solo.
The second aspect is the compositions. They are complex yet cohesive despite the considerable genre-blending. They won me over on the first listen—not only because they are thoughtful and remarkably mature for a debut, but also because in many moments Źrenice’s music reminds me of Messa, who released one of the best albums of last year.
The third point is the previously mentioned vocals of Kamila Kuś—clean and adding a folk element to an otherwise guitar-driven whole.
There’s no denying it—“Śnienie” is a very enjoyable listen. The only question is: why is it so short? One wishes for at least ten more minutes… although perhaps this very conciseness is what gives the album its strength.
